My grandmother has a Singer from the 1930s.
She bought it second-hand. She still uses it. I grew up in her dining room watching her make shoes on it, a common single mother occupation at that time in the South of Italy. My parents ran a clothing factory where I spent the other half of my childhood; where my mom made matching outfits for me and my sister.
Nobody in my family taught me to sew properly. They made sure I grew up understanding that clothes are made by someone's hands — and that a good piece is worth keeping. I bought my first sewing machine in my early thirties, and I'm still figuring it out. My YouTube channel is about what I'm learning along the way.
